Biomedical equipment technicians are also referred to as biomedical electronics technicians and biomedical engineering technicians. They repair, calibrate and maintain life support equipment and other medical instruments and devices used by research facilities, hospitals and clinics.
Biomedical equipment technicians are trained to repair, maintain, inspect and install medical equipment in hospitals or research facilities. Physicians and other health care personnel use the equipment for monitoring, diagnosing or treating diseases, disorders and illnesses. Technicians use a variety of hand tools to perform repairs and preventive maintenance. They perform safety inspections and offer instruction on the use and operation of medical equipment.
