Dr. Katie Diehl, a veterinary ophthalmology resident, performs a follow-up eye exam on a great horned owl recovering from a January 2004 cataract-lens and intraocular lens implant surgery at the School of Veterinary Medicine. The bird’s eyes were determined to be healing well. Sue and Jeff Theys, caretakers at Wildlife of Wisconsin, hope to move the owl to a larger flight cage in the spring to see if the bird can successfully hunt live prey before being released back into the wild.
